Moving Day! Today we moved the base & tower from the workshop to my studio.

Final construction will be in the garage - the only spot large enough
to accommodate the sculpture.

Meanwhile, in the studio, I finished design and assembly of the last panel. As soon as the paint is dry on the base, we can start moving everything into place!

Moving Along

Two sides are complete! Well, as complete as they can be prior to the playa. I have to build to ship, which means some things need to be secured after getting there.

Details of Side #2

The bird structure is finished, he just needs a paper mache coating.

EPSONS are back!

The EPSON prints came back, so i took a break from this http://kksd09.blogspot.com/ to work on this! The the quality of the prints is so beautiful, I'm going to have a hard time "covering them up."

Will he find a place? Probably : )

Each panel takes about a day to dry... one more day to go.

{?}

I designed the 4 panels' foundation images, and they are currently being printed out on a large format printer - 44 inches x 7 feet! As soon as these are back, they can be mounted to the panels, and then the fun begins.

BASE 90% Complete

The base is 90% complete. These pics show the framing of the tower finished - all that's left are some more L-brackets to secure it even more against the winds on the playa.

These pics show how the sidewalls will lay against the tower frame. Two are shown; once all four are on, you won't even see the frame!

Octovishnu lends a helping tentacle again : )

CHAOTIC RECKONING

Erik, John and I spent all day at the warehouse working on dual Burning projects; Chaotic Harmony and the kinetic sculpture, The Sand Reckoner:
http://kksd09.blogspot.com/

Today's goal was to get all 4 sidewalls constructed out of 4x8 sheets of plywood, with 4 siderails on each, for interior support.

lumber awaits

Cutting 8' lengths to 4'.

Repeat 16 times.

Completed side. Tomorrow is cutting each of the 4 panels into the obelisk shape.
4' across the bottom, tapering to 3' at the top.

Superimposed background graphic -
this should look pretty good once it's on for real!

HUNTING AND GATHERING

I hit the Fazio's Scrapyard and found yummy buttons and gauges...

Onto a flea market: EXIT signs, dinosuars, and rubber stamp handles

I decoupaged the handles with an evolution of freshwater snail shells:

Just a couple of the several bird cages my Mom picked up for me:
